Movicol Sachets 20's are an over-the-counter laxative medication used to treat chronic constipation and faecal impaction in adults and adolescents over 12 years old. The product works by drawing water into the bowel to soften the stool and aid a comfortable bowel movement
- Active Ingredients: Each sachet typically contains Macrogol 3350 (polyethylene glycol), sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium chloride.
- Formulation: It is a powder that must be dissolved in water before drinking.
-
Flavor: The original version often comes in a lemon and lime flavor, though flavour-free options also exist.
- Dosage for Constipation: The usual dose is 1 sachet daily, which can be increased to 2 or 3 sachets per day depending on the severity of the condition and individual response. Treatment typically lasts around 2 weeks.
- Preparation: Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 125 ml (about a quarter pint) of water. Stir well until the powder is fully dissolved and the solution is clear or slightly hazy, then drink it.
- Faecal Impaction: For very bad constipation (faecal impaction), the dose is typically 8 sachets a day, all dissolved in one litre of water and consumed within 6 hours, for up to 3 days. This should be done under medical supervision

- Side Effects: Potential side effects may include bloating, stomach pain, nausea, or diarrhoea, which often resolve with a dosage reduction.
- Contraindications: Not recommended for individuals with an intestinal obstruction.
- Consult a Professional: Always follow the instructions in the patient information leaflet or consult a doctor or pharmacist to ensure suitability, especially if you have existing health conditions or are taking other medications
