Tuberculosis is a communicable disease that serves as one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It can affect anyone, however people with compromised immunity have a much higher chance of contracting TB. Most cases of TB occur in the lungs, however TB outside the lung is (extrapulmonary TB) is not uncommon. In the last 30 years great steps have been taken to improve the outcomes of affected individuals. Thankfully, TB is a treatable disease. Early diagnosis and proper adherence to treatment play a great role in achieving a positive outcome for infected persons.
