Royal Pharmacy in Pietermaritzburg prioritises Reproductive Health
Royal Pharmacy in Pietermaritzburg is collaborating with Mar-eh Aesthetics this #february to highlight Reproductive Health Month. Dr Yvonne shares her expertise on endometriosis.
Endometriosis happens when tissue that is similar to the tissue that lines the woman's uterus, grows outside of the uterus.
Affects 1:10 women and is leading cause of infertility in women.
Commonly this tissue can be found on ovaries but can also be found on fallopian tubes, bladder etc.
Although exact cause is not known there is a genetic link that has been found.
Commonest symptom is severe dysmenorrhea although heavy bleeding, nausea and vomiting also occur.
Complications are impairment of quality of life, increased risk of ovarian cancer, anxiety and depression etc.
Treatment options to improve fertility include surgical removal of tissue, artificial insemination and hormonal control.
Dr Yvonne offers cervical cancer services, breast screenings, family planning, HIV counselling and testing and pre-conception work up. To book an appointment, please visit https://marehaesthetics.co.za/ or call 076 719 2727.
