🩺 March is Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Month 🩺
What is TB?
Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection that most commonly affects the lungs. It is curable and preventable.
How is TB spread?
TB spreads from person to person through the air. When someone with lung TB coughs, sneezes, or spits, they release TB germs into the air. You only need to inhale a few of these germs to become infected.
Risk Factors:
People with weakened immune systems, such as those living with HIV, malnutrition, or diabetes, or those who use tobacco, are at a higher risk of developing TB.
Symptoms:
Active TB can cause symptoms like coughing, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. These symptoms may be mild at first, which can lead to delayed treatment and increased risk of spreading the disease.
Treatment:
TB is treated with a 6-month course of 4 antimicrobial drugs, which can cure the disease if followed properly. With effective diagnosis and treatment, millions of lives have been saved since 2000.
Let's work together to raise awareness and protect ourselves, our families, and our communities from TB.
